Have you ever heard about the Torres Ferreras microwave fryer and don’t know how it works? Do you have it and want ideas and recipes to use it? You have come to the right place.
In this post we are going to discover what our microwave fryer consists of and how it works, as well as examples of simple and quick recipes to make your meals in the microwave without using hardly any oil and having to wash pots and pans or turn on the oven.
What is this microwave fryer?
First of all, let’s see how the idea arises to better understand the concept of this piece of artisanal kitchenware that is already essential in many homes, and an extraordinary gift for a friend or family member.
7 or 8 years ago, our master potter, Miguel Angel Torres Ferreras, tried roasting some almonds in the microwave with a stoneware bowl from our workshop and a plate used as a lid, with a recipe that he had been told. Seeing that it worked, he continued trying different preparations and began to fry garlic with the same system. From there, he began to test different shapes of pieces with different characteristics on his potter’s wheel until he found the most optimal one, which is our current microwave fryer.
At first, we called it a garlic fryer, but after verifying that it really serves as a casserole in which to make many different preparations, it has simply remained a fryer.
How does it work?
It’s very simple. The piece consists of a casserole or bowl with a handle to be more ergonomic, and a lid with 3 holes to let the heat or steam escape.
The first step is to add a little oil, depending on the preparation, to prevent it from sticking. Although thanks to our very hard and 100% vitrified enamel, only one or two drops are necessary. If you are making something fried, it is recommended to add the food first and then the oil to calculate the right amount to cover the food.
Then, the food is added. Cover it and put it in the microwave. The key now is in adjusting the power and time. Typically, it is used at or near maximum power, and the cooking time is usually between seconds and 2-3 min. maximum.
While the microwave is on, the design and material of the piece means that it maintains its heat and enhances it inside in a short time, allowing you to roast, dehydrate, fry or cook different foods.
Some examples:
Let’s now look at some recipes, as we make them ourselves or as some clients have told us. You yourself can tell us your creations on our Instagram or social networks and we share them with our community:
Fried garlic:
- Chop several cloves of garlic into small pieces or slices (to taste) to add to salads or other preparations.
- Pour oil until it barely covers the chopped garlic.
- Put the lid on and microwave at maximum power for 1 to 3 minutes.
(It is best to do a first test and check every minute or half a minute until it is to your liking and from then on, always at the same time)
Toasted almonds:
- Moisten the almonds a little with the shell or without shell (to taste)
- Add a little salt and let it stick to the surface of the almonds.
- Put in the microwave with the lid for 7 min. at maximum power (try the time little by little for the first time)
Baked apple:
- Peel and chop the apple.
- Put it in the Torres Ferreras microwave fryer with a little cinnamon.
- Put in the microwave with the lid at maximum power for 1 minute or a minute and a half (test the time the first time and choose the most appropriate according to your microwave)
Steamed vegetables:
- Peel and chop the vegetables to taste, for example carrots, zucchini, peppers, etc.
- Add the vegetables to the fryer and add a splash of oil. You can spice them to taste.
- Put the lid on and put it in the microwave for 3 to 5 minutes. Depending on the vegetable, it will cook sooner or later, so it is best to always test the time little by little the first time.
Grilled egg without oil
- Pour a drop of oil into the Torres Ferreras fryer and move it over the surface so that the egg does not stick anywhere.
- Throw an egg.
- Put the lid on and put in the microwave at medium power for 1 min. approx. You have to be especially careful to select the appropriate power and time your microwave just right because the egg may burst slightly.
Fit oatmeal cake:
- Beat 2 eggs, 50gr. of oats, a tablespoon of defatted cocoa powder, a tablespoon of pure peanut butter, 1 chopped banana (or other fruit), a little cinnamon
- Put a little oil in the fryer and spread it well on the sides.
- Pour the whipped mixture.
- Put the lid on and put in the microwave for 2:30 min. approx.
Apart from these preparations, it is recommended to try pastry preparations such as sponge cakes.
